I admit the EQ live progression server has peaked my interest, but the question I have was would the old zones still be untouched? IE EC, Freeport etc? and I'd probably have to spend a week figuring out the the stupid UI

Bukujuju

For me the biggest reason to play EMU classic servers or a progression server is the community. I was never a player that needed to have the best gear, It was about meeting new people that wanted to have fun. I quit Live because it was no longer fun it was a job. If I didnt slow a mob in x sec's some 18 year old kid that has never seen a set of real boobies other then on the internet would scream at me etc.

As I've spoke with past players in the last week or so it seems I'm a minority in enjoying progressing through the planes. Strange because I had a ton of fun doing that.
pop books made starting cities obsolete, traveling was a joke, pvp was ruined....

Well it did indeed make starting cities obsolete and traveling was made incredibly easier (still not as easy as a lot of other MMO's though). I'm not sure about the pvp though.

But still, I had fun playing on the planes.

PvP was always terrible in EQ. It's totally unbalanced.

The current UI is not a lot different from the one we have here. The previous incarnation of a Progression server had the revamped zones and I imagine this one would as well.

And those people are on this server, too. They're everywhere.

it started to get totally unbalanced with pop. there was no zonecontrol anymore on sullon zek thanks to the freakin books. resists went skyhigh with planar stuff. casters had a realy hard time to land spells on others...

it was kind of unbalanced in classic but the thrill in pvp was gone with pop

The problem with EQ PvP (and with most MMOs that are primarily PvE games) is that the game just isn't designed for it and so there are only so many things you can do to make it work.

Hey Mitic....do you guys have kangaroos? lol j/k

Seriously, what you say is true. But I always thought pvp was really weak. I played on a pvp server for about a year and a half and had fun but it was team pvp. Still, pve was always my favorite in EQ. And the books aside, I thought PoP was fun. But the books did take a lot of fun out of the whole aspect of the game.

So I guess my view is...planes were awesome but the books were pretty crappy.

guess thats the reason why i sticked to eq pvp since perfectly balanced pvp mmos became boring real fast for me

i havent played mmo`s any longer than a month (except vanguard) with pvp involved.
