...and as I mentioned before all the trolls came in, if you really don't want to start completely from scratch it's possible to find a plat transfer from blue to red if you can find someone switching. I can make up HP rings for 310pp a pair (mat prices), stat gear, resist gear, whatever you like. I'm not looking to profit, just to help new players get started whatever their bank balance.

It's the PVP ruleset that makes red less attractive. MMOs have always had significantly fewer PvP players than pve players. The idea that I'm going to drop all of my money if I get killed isn't exactly something that players clamor for.

To put it another way, if you can't handle being called a name in a video game, you probably can't handle being killed in a video game either.

I've played EQ pvp since 2000 so maybe it's just what I've grown up with, but the money thing really isn't a big deal. They don't take all of your money, only what you haven't banked. And I always bank. It's not hard. If you're careful as you should be, the most you'll lose is whatever coin you farmed up in a single farming session. And even then you can do a lot to safeguard your cash. Leave yourself outs, cheetah classes should always keep it memmed. Bards should always have DA song ready to go. Every so often convert plat to gems. Etc.

There was only one instance in my time spent playing EQ that I lost a significant amount of money, and it really sticks out in my memory for this reason. Ran into a group of shorty purists during Luclin era and was nuked down quickly, think a wizard got a manaburn off even. I don't think it is so much the language but rather the image you portray about the Red community when you use such language. By being both vulgar and condescending, you are making Red look less attractive to the more mature player base, like myself.

The actual community that exists on red is largely awesome. Had a lot of fun chatting and hanging out in groups, which is to be expected in EQ! And the vocal minority? Surely a mature gamer would know not to get involved in it, watch it with kind curiosity, and maybe roll their eyes gently. Sometimes it's really amusing tbh. I kinda believe that pvp gamers, particularly in games like EQ where pvp isn't "supposed" to happen, are more creative and interesting than their blue counterparts. Maybe if someone's afraid of potentially offensive creativity ("there are bad words in this rap music!") they should stay away, but still. Letting a few loud personalities dictate how you play and enjoy the game seems kinda silly.
