Recon. GOD NO! I wish I was good enough for Recon back then. Recon and Arete were both winding down. Ashorty's guild, Infinit, and the public crew, and a couple other crews, had taken over by the time I was really playing in the raid scene. Recon was really heavy during Velious era *I think my best thing during Velious was being a public form raidleader for EToV for quest farming*, and they both did pretty well in PoP, when Public really took off. God, I modeled my warrior after their MT. Forget his name. Dwarf in full Warlord gear. That dentist chair blue shade god so gross now. Back then it was so awesome. On the other hand, I completely despised the public crew's MT and second RT, Manjuk *dwarf*, and Landrain *barb* respectively. Both of them were asshats who sucked Ashorty's cock to get loot. Such was the way of the world when I was a kid ah well.

I hated paladins with a vengeance! Argh! E'Ci was more of a terrible server than anything. Nobody had that laser focus to think of what class was best for everything. More like 'do we have enough bodies to throw at this and try to make it work?' heh. Sad, but it worked. Ish.

Looks like the Glowing Black Stone is the item required to complete the quest described as "APPQuestJohnC"
The "APP" prefix means it was created by a design apprentice who was tinkering with the tools and learning the game. This isn't a quest that can actually be completed. Years later, when QUEST flags were applied to items APPQuestJohnC was picked up in the query and the GBS was flagged as a quest item. I don't know who JohnC is. The quest was created on 2/26/2000 so this predates me by over 2 years.
