Default A book about a horse

I've spawned a lot of Quillmanes and gotten about 8 cloaks to drop for myself and my friends. I'm riding in a car right now, so I'm going to take this opportunity to nerd out and share what I've observed.

There are exactly 2 trigger mobs up at all times: one lioness and one elephant calf. Not every lioness or elephant calf is a trigger; only one of each can trigger Quillmane. Each one respawns instantly when killed. They spawn anywhere in the region approximately bounded by:
• the hill south of the Aviak village
• the low hill east of the Aviak village
• the southern edge of Splitpaw

The correct mobs either head straight north or walk westward for a while and then turn north. Once they start moving north, they go almost to Splitpaw and then turn around and go south. From then onward, they will then patrol north and south indefinitely until killed.

They head just a hair off due north or south. If you see a lioness or elephant calf moving at an angle more than, say, 30 degrees or so off due north or due south, it is not a trigger mob and you might as well not kill it. If you have a tracker with you, definitely don't kill it because you'll mess up the tracking order.

Another clue is that the correct lioness has exactly 94 hit points. If you hit it for 30 and it loses about a third of its hp bar, you've got the right one. I don't know if the correct elephant calf has a certain HP total.

When you kill a trigger mob, it respawns instantly in the region I described above. It also gives a small chance to spawn Quillmane. I believe this is also instant. Note that the placeholder mobs continue to spawn even when Quillmane is up. For this reason, I think they should be regarded as triggers rather than as placeholders.

Once you have killed the right lioness and/or the right elephant calf, you can start using track (for rangers, sort by "normal") to confirm each lioness or calf is the right mob. As long as you only kill the correct lioness and calf and don't kill the wrong ones, if you see a lioness or elephant calf on the top of the track list, you know it's the right one. This is why I prefer people don't kill other lionesses or elephant calves in the zone.

Once you have killed some trigger mobs, you need to check if Quillmane has spawned. She (I think it's a she) can spawn at any of the three locations on the wiki, and she paths as described there, but also sometimes moves north and south along the western wall.

I have seen people killing lionesses and elephant calves out near Quillmane's northeastern or southeastern spawn areas in an attempt to get a cloak. I can't say for sure that this doesn't work, but if it does work, you should notice the lionesses and elephant calves respawning instantly. If they do not respawn instantly somewhere nearby, you're just wasting time and you should go to the Aviak village.

Hope this helps.
