Other things:
In options, under controls, find the multiple entries for targetting. There are a few different ones but you only need one (click them all and hit escape to remove the keybinds.), i recommend 'cycle through nearby targets', i put mine on tab. You should also go into chat controls and remove the other thing bound to tab (it will be red) Learn to use project1999 wiki and the maps provided. You WILL need them when you start out. When you are around level 4, ask someone to teach you how to bind Sense Heading skill to your hotbar and to a movement key. This skill lets you hit the button and determine if you're facing NSEW or NW NE SE SW. VERY useful for navigation. Use /who or just / to see who is in the zone (just type in / and hit enter), and send /tell's to people who are higher level and/or your class if you have questions. People on this server are very helpful! The community here is what makes all the difference in your experience. Happy hunting -Speedyfeet

Welcome man. Don't let the haters get you down. It's fun if you let it be.

I played a pretty good bit of games and was able to find my way around the options and settings pretty easily. The toggleinspect off is nice to hear about since I was used to using the wsad control scheme and using right click for only camera.
Didnt actually expect the "hail" command was going to be needed so will need to redo that keybind :P Actually only problem I'm having (thought haven't really got to sit down and actually play much) is my direction with the game. Not sure where I should be going, quests I should be doing, mobs I should be killings, skills I should be learning / where the skills are learned at and ways I should be leveling. In Ashersons Call, one of the old ways of leveling was to grind mobs over and over and do quests with friends by looking up the details on wiki. Figured this would be pretty easy and similar to finding my direction but having no map is pretty daunting. Been mostly running around blind, having people ask if I'm lost and telling them I was (haha) and looking up the location I was currently at and finding a picture of the area and look around ingame at my surroundings trying to get a idea where what was. But like before, I'm not too sure where I should be going and such and feel like this could be quite the experience one I get a idea of things to do. Been trying to do some guides but not really found a starter guide that would start me off at level 1.

I often times look for other players that are near my level with /who all warrior 55, for instance to see where lvl 55 warriors are hunting. I will send them a tell, and ask them where they hunted too. You can look for lvl 60s of your class, and they often times can give good advice too. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Sheeps, tell us what class/race you rolled? Every race has its own starter city and newb zone. There are always newb quests to do while killing mobs for exp. Some, though, are very lackluster or unpopulated (Erudites get Toxxulia...............................) while others are packed with almost too many people, which can be it's own fun (Greater Faydark).

This is going to be long.
Lucky for you, you rolled the best class in the game (bard). They also make a good first choice imo because bard's are, arguably I suppose, the least gear dependent class in the game. Bards do require full attention and a lot of button clicks compared to other classes, though. Bard songs don't last long, so every 3 seconds you will be hitting a different button basically. There are some bard specific guides on the wiki you should read. One of the best things you can do for yourself is create macro's for each song with /stopsong /cast 1 (on two different lines), this will cut the number of buttons you need to hit in half. Your direction should be gaining experience and levels via killing (mostly) blue con mobs. Bards can solo xp faster than any other class in the game via swarm kiting(search youtube for examples), but if youre really wanting to learn the game I would avoid that completely for the time being and focus on getting into some groups and making some friends while you learn the basics. For example, if you're around Freeport and are lvl 8 or so you may want to join an orc camp group in East Commons. You could roll up on the group and ask if they have room or /ooc Lvl 8 bard LFG. The deathfist belts from the Orc's sell for 3-5pp each to other players, use /auction to advertise you are selling them in East Commons until someone sends you a tell saying they will buy them. You can buy entry level instruments at the bard guilds for 1pp each or so. Once you have saved up around 100 pp I would advise getting at least a Mistmoore Battle Drum for around 50pp in East Commons, and probably a Lute of the Gypsy Princess. My main is a 60 Bard so once you get the hang of the basics of the game, if you have any bard-specific questions feel free to ask me in PM here on the forums and I'll try to steer you in the right direction, or as someone suggested do a /who all 60 bard and ask if they mind answering a few questions. If no one has helped you out yet and you need a few plat for your songs/entry level instruments/bags/food shoot me a PM. If you want to go it alone and earn everything yourself that is fine too. TLDR: Bard is the master class, read the guides on the wiki, leveling should be your focus

If you want to casually raid ( like myself) consider the EQ Agnarr server which has instanced raiding... it was disappointing to learn that you pretty much can't kill Nag/Vox here on an 8 year old server.
I enjoy p99 but the agnarr server is brand new and you don't have years of the mudflation and level 60s deleveled stuff etc etc.
