I usually don't engage when people try to start random ooc conversations. If they're asking for advice or something I'll respond, but if they're just announcing to the zone that "oh no I just died to a green while oom/medding" and "someone's killing that beautiful pegasus!!!!" (dude in SK last week) I usually don't respond.

I figure if I engage at all, there's a fair chance he moves his inane ooc chatter to inane tells and I have an unsolicited new friend to manage.

I don't ooc/shout much, but I definitely chat it up in groups. It's a lot of fun to get to know new people. I duo'ed most of 55-60 with a friend, which was fun, but I definitely missed the excitement of a full group, so I still try and do that in dungeons from time to time.

Speaking isn't indicative of a conversation or any type of discussion. So the irony in your boring reply is kinda funny.

This is what I do when I'm bored and want to chat:

/ooc OUCH MY TOES!!

Just at a random time. People can't help but to ask what happened to your toes. What possibly happened to this guy's toes?? It's a mystery! No one knows! They have to ask.

Once you have them on the hook, ask em if they like beans.

/ooc isn't used all that much for chat, especially not for chat unrelated to regular gameplay. Good. If it was constantly filled with inane banter I'd simply hide the window for it, and so would a lot of other folks.

Plenty of regular chat takes place in group and guild channels. That is as it should be.

As for a different comment in the thread, I much prefer typing over using voice communications in video games. I wouldn't invite most of you over to my home, and I don't want to hear you, either.
