Being a Necro turning into a Dark Elf in Freeport will actually worsen your rep if you are a gnome or a human already if I recall correctly, you can easily fix fp guards rep by killing some orcs and turning some belts though, so its not that hard to fix.

It will only be half as bad when your cleric pal gets 39. They can 50% rez you after watching you die.
