I was agreeing that avoiding a private federal reserve was a good idea.

I didn’t say government should not be the ones to control the value of currency I said they are not (edit I actually did, but more saliently what i was trying to say was that they are not in control). The value is decided by the market. The government can influence that by adding or removing currency, but unless drastic action is taken that is more of a tweak than total control.

There was a reason I asked who controls the dollar, I’m not an economist, but I genuinely believed the dollar was a fiat currency which means it’s value isn’t dictated, but instead decided by market forces, is that wrong?

Partly wrong yes, mostly controlled by the federal reserve which is a partly private institution guided by how the market is going, over the last 4 years though we have seen unprecedent government interference ( trump telling the fed chair what to do )
