Default Explain to me Velious

I am nearly level 57 on my cleric. I have never had a level 60 in Everquest, ever, so endgame content is not my expertise. I have asked groupmates what are good zones for leveling. Usually I get Karnor's, Sebilis, Burning wood, and Hole. Why is Velious so ignored? I have not been there at all on P1999, and back on Live, I went there only once to Crystal Caverns.

What use is Velious?

Why don't many people seem to go there?

Was it like this on Live?

Mobs in velious generally have more hp and hit harder. Velks sometimes has groups but I do remember on live Velks was way more group friendly.

Getting around:
https://wiki.project1999.com/The_Missing_Velious_Guide

Top quests (copy-pasted from announcements I made to my guild in Discord):

1. "Scout Tools" Quest https://wiki.project1999.com/Leuz%27s_Task
• Requires Amiable faction with Claws of Veeshan (the dragons of Skyshrine and their minions).
• It is a simple quest, but very popular. It yields an excellent melee bracer, priest range-slot, or caster robe.
• Project1999 has staff-enforced rules for Scout Charisa. When Scout Charisa spawns, everyone present randoms 1000 within thirty seconds (strictly enforced, so roll instantly and only once). The highest roller gets to loot. You must be level 55 or higher to roll. The last time someone under level 55 won, the GMs deleted the loot. This system has been successful for years on Blue99.
• Everyone who rolls is required to stick around and help with the fight. Bring pride upon our name.
• Scout Charisa has a 10-hour respawn time.

2. Circlet of the Falinkan https://wiki.project1999.com/Circlet_of_the_Falinkan
• Requires Warmly faction with Claws of Veeshan.
• Hardest part: Vilefang in Dragon Necropolis. 24-hour spawn, no variance. Vilefang is defined as a camp; whoever is clearing the snakes owns the camp. All camp rules apply. Members who break rules or create unnecessary drama will be removed.
• Hard: Gkrean, Prophet of Tallon in Kael Drakkel. We kill him when we raid Kael Arena. He is technically groupable with a very strong group.
• Easy: Staff Sergeant Drioc in Kael Drakkel. Groupable. Train the whole room toward a zone line; have a feign death puller tag Drioc off and FD; kill Drioc.

3. Lodizal Shell Shield https://wiki.project1999.com/Lodizal_Shell_Shield
Kill Lodi, loot piece of shell, give it to an otter in Cobalt Scar along with 10,000 gold. Amazing back/secondary shield for any who can use it!

4. Eyepatch of Plunder https://wiki.project1999.com/Eyepatch_of_Plunder
A rather hardcore quest that requires one item from Lodizal and one item from Stormfeather; as well as two other, easier items from Iceclad Ocean.
• Stormfeather is an 18-hour spawn that can skip spawns. Stormfeather is a camp and you may have to wait in line behind others. It took me several days on Red99.
• Lodizal - info above.

5. Ice Forged Shackles https://wiki.project1999.com/Ice_Forged_Shackles
A weird and cool item from another quest that starts in Iceclad Ocean. It could be used by melees to pull from a short range even when they have run out of arrows (it’s not monk-usable, though). Note that the range is very short, so its usefulness for pulling is limited.

6. Coldain Ring quests https://wiki.project1999.com/Coldain_Ring_Quests
Ring 8 is a great instant clicky junk buff. https://wiki.project1999.com/Velium_..._Insignia_Ring
Ring 9 is much harder, but even better. https://wiki.project1999.com/Coldain..._Insignia_Ring
Ring 10 is a grand achievement. https://wiki.project1999.com/Ring_of...Frostreaver_IV

7. Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl https://wiki.project1999.com/Coldain...r_Shawl_Quests
Very long quest involving most tradeskills that rewards a +1 mana regen shawl. https://wiki.project1999.com/Runed_Coldain_Prayer_Shawl

8. The Spirit of Garzicor https://wiki.project1999.com/The_Spirit_of_Garzicor
Another very long quest that requires a ton of blacksmithing.
2-hander reward: https://wiki.project1999.com/Ethereal_Bladed_Naginata
Priest/monk reward: https://wiki.project1999.com/Sanctum...an%27s_Earring
Caster reward: https://wiki.project1999.com/Pitted_Iron_Ring

When they made the mobs and environments more challenging in velious they forgot to increase the XP. Woopz! Great end game content though.

Imagine if they took Everfrost and the surrounding zones and stretched it over an entire continent, so there are dragons and giants (even gnolls and orcs and mammoths and spiders) but the barbarians are shorter.

People definitely go to Velious - mostly for loot (raid and non).
Velious is not good for exp. The mobs have relatively more HP and AC than Old World and Kunark mobs. People gave you good tips on where to go for exp.
I don't know whether it was like this on Live.

Ignore half the server with BiS equipment who still choose to not go to velious cause "Mobs are harder"....

Go to Velious for adventure, challenge, fun. But definitely don't stay away from Velious cause "Mobs are harder".. That's a sad way to play this awesome fuckin game....
