Why do forum people hide who they are in game?

I think it’s cuz there’s an automatic disconnect between the forums and th game, since in the game we’re encouraged to use fantasy names and roleplay, whilst on the forums we r just chilling. If nobody asks, your in-game characters forever remain a mystery.

Is it like a minigame to figure out who is who in game? Or are you scared people will know who you are and harass you in Norrath? I guess it also has something to do with people having multiple forum accounts they use, which is sad. Why would you need more than one forum account?

Not to single you out, but this sentiment sounds like that of a Democrat because they generally don't have to worry about this problem. You'll very seldom see a Conservative voter demand that someone be canceled or silenced because of their political beliefs. I've witnessed some pretty crazy stuff on P99 when it comes to politics too, even recently.

Pro-tip to anyone who is Conservative but likes to play MMOs, avoid servers/guilds that are predominantly on the west coast, or guild leaders who are from California. You'll have a much better time.

Also I've had the forums being associated with my in-game persona negatively impact me in many ways, but it doesn't really bother me since I am a bit of a troll and think it's funny. I very seldom get in fights in game. Most of my time is spent power leveling strangers. I give most of the items I loot away, and usually won't even loot an item unless I confirm no one else in the group wants it.

Forums for me are just a fun thing to do, especially when I don't have the energy to play EverQuest (which right now, I'm just sitting in my chair debating on whether or not I want to log in because once I do, I always feel obligated to stay online for like 5-6 hours since I'm usually the only healer).
