Thats the point. On a populous server people get much more fussy about who to let in to a group. These days grouping is much more laissez faire and people aren’t bothered if you’re playing a wizard or a melee in rags. They’re just happy to have fellow players to bang with.

Sounds like a good reason for low pop. Screw the fussy types, I am more fussy about weak players ie min maxers who usually cant find their backside with both hands tied behind their backs

Good luck finding a group in the first place, though. Even at peak hours, it's often really hard to find groups in many leveling zones that used to be really popular. The downsides outweigh the positives when it comes to low pop servers IMHO.

because there are 8 character slots hardcoded into the game.
where will the extra 8 go? :-)

Rogean and Nilbog were talking about server mergers and stuff 10 years ago. So I think by the time they launched green they had an idea of how it would all play out. Not saying a merger will happen, but not for that reason.

You could scroll past the 8th slot using up and down on live server before they added silver/gold/platinum. Was handy for the live server merges.

So for some clients we can see it wasn’t a hardcoded restriction.

Let's be honest, they've had, what, 4? 5? years at this point to make it happen.

Face reality, If it was gonna happen, it would've happened.
They have zero interest in doing anything other than flaunting their "status".
If someone replaced them with AI, it'd be a noticeable change because things would run smoothly.
