Interesting. Wonder if there's any sense to which ones do and which ones don't or if it's just random.

You didn’t have the item at the time it was picked up so there is nothing to reimburse. They may tell you who picked up the item so you can ask them to return it. Idk if their policy is still to name pickeruppers tho.
Are their logs able to track that? I'd assume so?

My understanding is that CSR doesn't have visability into who picked something up. NPC can definitely pick things up as I've seen it happen right in front of me, as OP now has as well.

I think the key is it doesn't feel like stealing if its on the ground. If you walk past $100 and pick it up it feels like hey its my lucky day. That doesn't mean I'm going to punch someone in the stomach, take $100 out of their wallet and feel good about it.

I pick up everything I see on the ground. Its usually just fishing grubs or empty mage summoned bags, but you never know!

flat out wrong my dude.

I had a drop transfer poof couple years back, 2 bags of random caster junk, I petitioned with the time and location I was at, as well as some of the items that i could remember the names of. They restored every item, even ones I had forgotten about. Everything is tracked, when items go on the ground the server logs when, where, and what.

Checks out. There was that one players, years back, who tried to hide ill-gotten items by ground transferring them in bags of meat pies repeatedly using different characters, as if that would somehow cover their tracks. Main page or Discord needs a PSA regarding this. Maybe it would prevent similar wile e coyote attempts, making CSR do extra detective work.

Couldn't be more wrong. Every drop is recorded in the same way as every trade.

I’ll say a couple last things about drop transferring high value items. It can create unnecessary temptation for other players and potentially causes a lot of work for the guides. I don’t reccomned

Devs have implemented a way to track drop transfers as of ~ 2021. RMTers were using drop trades to skirt log tracking. They put an end to that via new script that can track item IDs even when dropped on the ground.

However - they will typicallynot reimburse items lifted from other players trying to drop transfer.
