I have solo'd it as of yesterday but in essence you're right -unless you're getting guaranteed success on the maximum number of mobs (in this case 3) then WoT is both required AND a massive liability to your mana.

Gave him a dozen tries over the last 2 days and props to you brother.
If there is a judicator in the area everything is sowed so you 100% have to cap out every lull crit fail. You usually get 3 crit fail for like 1 success or so and you have to start the whole process over if you cap out. Very annoying.
I got an attempt where I tried positioning pet as best as I could but I still got an add from the bottom right wall. Wasn't ready for that so gated as my pet was getting smoked early.
Then another try, I opened with recant magic (same as before) and pet seems to have had a miss streak and I could never shake him off, died right there. Thought the opening spell always generated like 1 hate? Sure didn't this time.
Makes you appreciated the difficulty of the kill. Tapping out for now but I'll be back.
