EQ2 was so poorly optimized that a new PC struggled to run it.

WoW could be played on a 2000-2001 era laptop at the time.

Pulling in EQ is the same thing as fetch quests
and when the pullers left for WoW there was no more exp or raids in eq

the epic quests are those most epic of fetch quests in gaming, one giant shopping list of items a few npc's need you to go get for them.
