Nobody knows. Patches for obsolete content are coming at a glacial pace, which potentially hints that a new server may be on the distant horizon, but it’s relatively obvious that the enthusiasm for this project from its creators has faded. Anything that might be in the pipeline is likely many years away.

I had some hope but with Rogean joining EQ legends development it makes me think there won't be any future for these servers except stagnation.

my guess is that depending on how well EQL does, they may decide to open a P99 classic style server on that same network.

My (mostly inferred, not confirmed) guess is No.

Lots of people forget as time goes on, but this server was not built to be a replica for players. This server was a passion project by a few hobbyist developers who wanted to re-create classic era EQ, all of the patches, 2 expansions, etc... Because the source code for the original EQ has long been lost.

What they wanted to do with the code they created? Who knows. Maybe leverage it into jobs with the EQ IP holders to work on future projects (success on that front).

But Nilbog's continued effort in implementing obsolete patches (pre end-of-Velious lifetime) is not an indicator of a new server on the horizon; but, it seems to be an indicator that Nilbog would like to finish the project by successfully completing the reverse engineering 2.5 years of source code, patches, and expansions.

I think the idea that Nilbog would spend over a decade of his life rebuilding a massively multiplayer online game ... just to put the final version on a shelf where no one can play it, is ... not well thought out.

I don't want to turn this post into a Flame section. It seems that there is a coin-flip chance based on who you encounter on these forums that every post will turn out as such.

That being said: From what I understand of the lore of Project 1999 - it was about rebuilding the source code. It wasn't about hosting a new server for thousands of people to enjoy. That was a result of doing a good job recreating the source code. They didn't set out to have a new emu server that would be wildly popular.. they just used EQEmu as a platform to host their experimental project, which wound up being a smash hit.

My 2 cents. Take it or leave it, it doesn't bother me either way. Unsubscribing from the thread, and consider my lesson learned when it comes to posting thoughtful responses.
