Thumbs down Norton AntiVirus is Itself, A Virus

I've always hated Norton from the beginning, but it came pre-installed on this laptop from the factory and I am lazy so it stayed. For servers where you got Chinese crackers scanning ports 24/7 and bruteforcing root then maybe antivirus and shit makes sense. But for home PC, you have to be a moran. I've never bothered with antivirus and believe me I have been through the slums of internets, 0 problems but most people are morans so your mileage may vary.

Besides constantly eating up enormous amounts of needless memory and processor power 24/7 to spam me about data mining cookies (.txt files who cares) occasionally, it was ignored.

Then I'm trying to run this program today that fuxup windoze (http://wutdo.com/notavirus.exe), but when I moved the .exe out of the .zip it would get auto-deleted by Norton and I'd get a popup saying Trojan fixt! Even when I disabled the damn thing.

So I uninstalled the piece of shit. Oh and of course it took its sweet ass time, so not only did I uninstall it, I searched meticulously for all remnants of anything mentioning Norton or Synaptic to ensure total destroyal of the annoying beast.

Ran my program, restarted computer to a fucking Norton notice!

There's probably an uninstall program you have to download (and probably pay for) to get rid of Norton. That's how it worked with...whatever the fuck antivirus I used to have that I can't remember right now. Just get Spybot and you're all set.

notavirus.exe (WS.REPUTATION.1)

Risk: Medium
Threat type: Insight Network Threat. There are many indications that this file is untrustworthy and therefore not safe

Use the Norton Removal Tool to get rid of it. I use AVAST, others might recommend AVG but I got ticked at them when they stopped supporting the free product the first time around. It's free again, so ymmv.

Good luck!

That's a decent spyware removal tool, but it does jack as an anti-virus. I'd recommend it in addition to one of the AV's I mentioned.

Noticed your hatred of AV's...I bet 50 bucks if you run Malwarebytes you'll be in for a shock. If not, you're the luckiest SoB surfing the net.

I'm the same as Naez. I ran Malware once and nothing severe came up.

This is all I use, never really had a problem with viruses though. But unlike most people I also don't click on stupid shit.
