Default Basic Necro Guide?

Thinking about creating a necromancer. Not having a whole lot of luck soloing on my druid when i am, but its hard enough finding a good spot thats open. Grouping is terrible, did something happen to druids where they aren't grouping as much over the past couple of months? Anyways, i might make a guy to play when everything is taken. Anyone tell me some basics of the necro without sarcasm? I really have never made a caster on here before, well strict caster at that.

Check out the wiki lots of stuff there....or search the forums, you'll find half a dozen necro guides.

Buff line: lich + shield (if you feel frisky)
Strategy: darkness, send pet in, fear, sit and watch. Refresh darkness and fear as needed.
That will get you started, for more info, use the search function or check the wiki.

I strongly recommend making an Iksar necro. The regen makes a gigantic difference for the lich line of spells.

This will also result in you banging your head against your keyboard while crying something along the lines of "Necros are supposed to be the kings of solo, so why does my exp bar move so god damn slowly?!!?!?!!"

Edit - sorry, I forgot I was supposed to be helpful and not sarcastic-ish.

Pets eat your xp if they do more than 50% damage to any given monster you kill. Sucks majorly, since the key to necros being such strong soloers since forever was that they could be very efficient with their killing by relying heavily on their pet to deal damage to feared+snared NPCs while the necro was medding. Currently on here though you need to be much more active in killing things in order to earn more than 25-50% xp per kill. Example: before you could darkness + fear + let pet kill stuff, maybe tossing in a lifetap if you weren't 100% due to lich. Now to get full xp you'd need darkness + poison dot + lifetap + fear + don't send your pet in until mob is already at like 70%.

Also, the iksar suggestion was a good one imo. You don't have a lot of places you are liked as a necro anyway, might as well be hated everywhere but have great sitting+FD hp regen.

This.

My solo chain is: Pet (wait three taunts) -> Darkness -> Fear -> Poison DoT -> Darkness (its a short DoT) -> Lifetap (or Fear again if it breaks) -> Lifetap -> etc

Also, the Ikky regen is nice for sure. However, you might as well write off going to the cities in Antonica, Faydwer and Odus (who goes to Odus anyway?) unless you're willing do to some serious faction work (If it's even possible in the evil cities for an Iksar).
