Default Mob Aggro: Does anyone remember...?

On Live when someone ran a mob or group of mobs and it passed near others, many of the monsters would automatically jump off of the train and attack people that they passed by.

I'm not talking about social aggro. I'm talking by a mob peeling off its original aggroer for NO reason and just attacking you when you were completely idle and not doing anything.

I positively remember this happening with undead mobs, but I'm not sure about others.

On p99 the only times I've had this happen is if I'm fighting something, and somebody runs by me with mobs that don't have any additional agro built on them. The pursuing mobs will stop chasing the person and hit me instead.

Yes I remember this with Undead mobs too.

I know this happened for a fact because a 13-year-old me on Veeshan thought it was really funny to train croc groups in Oasis with Spectres. I did this by just aggroing the spectres then running to the docks, and I didn't ever zone or camp.. As long as the train chasing me passed near somebody that was low level they would aggro them and swarm them and kill them.

I remember this on all mobs (because of being a monk.... pulling) - if you did not damage them with at least one point of damage, they would "peel off" of you and agro onto others. The people they agrod to didnt have to do anything but just be there to get agro - this is why training people was so easy on live....

i used to summon a sand giant as a mage (monster summoning) and run to docks scream SG to docks... used to scatter people. some would even shout "named SG at the docks" and people would all stand around it trying to attack it

spiders in velks would constantly peel off if you didn't attack them if they ran past someone else that was fighting. I had to make sure i always did damage to any spider i pulled.

This may have been a social agro mechanic over ruling prox agro. If i did any damage at all they would not switch target

There is a bug report thread last month, if you have additional evidence of this mechanic it would be greatly appreciated.

Fom the original classic EQ Atlas entry for Befallen:

This causes problems for the people who lie along their path. Many of the monsters will jump off of the train and attack people that they pass by, but even worse is what happens when the person that all the monsters are chasing either zones or dies, and that is that the entire train walks back down to its level again. Along the way, they will attack anyone within their frenzy radius (which is almost the whole dungeon, it is so small). The trains are also more deadly because, if you are fleeing them, you have to somehow try and open locked doors from your inventory screen while being slammed.
