It all comes down to playstyle. There is a huge chunk of players like Brad_Mo123 who are all about insanely long camps for uber crazy items, or hardcore raiding 24/7. The worst of the worst won't give you the time of day, will not want you anywhere near their camp, and would rather destroy extra items then give them away. That's just how it is.

But there is also a high number of players who just enjoy playing the game. Random quests, grouping, helping others, handing out gear to the little ones, etc.

Each playstyle still results in fun and personal fulfillment. And the latter is a lot....and I mean a lot...less stressful.

Thats all well and good and I give the guy props for wanting to be nice but I think hes hurting you. I hope you soon realise just how harsh this server's community is and you learn to play under those conditions. This isnt the live EQ we knew 1999-2001 or however long you played. People have grown much more greedy and less charitable which was likely caused by today's MMO's like WoW. Everyone has lost patience becuase they are not use to needing it anymore and it always frustrates others who are patient which in return makes those people inpatient as well. Bottom line is, this server is cut throat so you better have a hidden dagger ready to stab someone else in the back like everyone else [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.].
lol.

Don't listen to this guy. I don't know what server he's playing on. He probably had a bad experience or two and wants to pee on everyone else's experience to make sure it matches his.

I think the perception that people are less friendly and willing to help out on this server is totally inaccurate. I still remember people who helped me out when I first started, and I try to help out people myself by handing out weapon upgrades or other small items to people that are new to the server.

All mmo's have nice people on them, in EQ 2 someone gave me a ton of spellbooks and some plat just because, in wow my guildies gave my BC so I could raid with them, also, I treated a problem with a trade deal I made honestly and this guy GAVE me my epic flyer which is the most expensive end game skill.

TL'dr you're talking in generalizations that aren't true, of course mmo's have some jerks in them they are available to the general public what do you expect?

This is entirely true, aside from the few griefing miscreants. Much like the old proverb:

In order to have friends, one must show themselves friendly. There are loads of good people on here that I owe a lot to.

Im glad to hear that random acts of kindness are still contagious. Of of the strongest assets of everquest is the sense of community and exploration, meeting new people and making new friends. In 99 when everquest launched I was amazed at how many people who were higher level would buff for free or even give out items to noobs such as myself and it made a world of difference. I would much rather have some good friends in the game and share the experience of grouping together rather than to have a bank full of thousands of platinum. Also, being a high level cleric allows me to go back to some lower level zones and get useful items such as bloodstained tunics. Sure I could probably sell alot of these items for hundreds of plat but I wouldn't get that warm fuzzy feeling for making someones day by gifting them items they could use. I would much rather give a fbss to a lowbie who could make use of it through their leveling and love and appreciate the item rather than sell it for a couple thousand plat. Even when it comes to rezes, I will go out of my way to rez someone not expecting a donation. Yes, I will take donations but if someone has nothing to offer its not a problem. Cleric is my favorite class in eq because I love helping/buffing/rezing people just to do it. And also to pwn those undead [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]. Remember, one random act of kindness can make all the difference in someone else's experience. You never know who is watching or only good things can come from being good to others.

I have not seen much bad on this server.... I remember a PLer taking orc 1... so I started taking orcs at my own slow pace and he flipped out saying he would get me banned.

Guess I'm going to the slammer eh?

But I've also seen a newbie complain about PLers in chat at orc 1 and the PLers were like we didn't know you wanted to kill anything and gladly left....
