Game Mechanics: Trade bug

ok this has happened a couple of times to me now...

I've tried on 2 occasions to trade an item to someone else that was sitting and looking at their spell book. it comes up and says they are busy right now

so they stand up and i try again. only now there is no message and i can't get the trade window up

logging out and back in appeared to fix the issue. I don't know who is bugged because both times we both logged off and on.
