Right, but what if that bill is $10,000+ and you can't afford to pay it? What if it never gets paid? They are just supposed to eat the loss and hope that the next patient has the ability to pay, or spend even more money to send collections after you? This is far from my area of expertise, but I just don't see how a hospital could sustainably operate like that.
