I soloed my druid to I think level 11 before I switched over to the shaman. It was a bit of a pain, but not really that bad, especially not after I got my level 9 spells - thorns helps a lot. Basically, if I recall correctly, I'd thorns up and just melee the mob, maybe nuke once or twice, and then tree up to heal. Not super-fast, but there are certainly worse soloers at that level. Once you hit 14 and get SoW you can kite effectively and it'll get way easier. 2 hours a level is nothing; on my shaman right now, who's 26, I'm doing 4 hours a level at my very fastest, usually more like 5 due to bad pulls or competing for monsters. You really shouldn't judge a class based on how it plays at level 9. Of course, if you're in Crushbone, the quests you should be doing are the Crushbone belts and shoulderpads. Although if you're strapped for cash, it may be wiser to sell the former for 1pp each and the latter for 2pp each (although you get about half that money doing the quests anyway).

Selling bone chips is a great way to make money as a lowbie in general, but not specifically in Faydwer, as demand tends to be pretty low (not a lot of necros running around). They generally go for 5-10pp a stack if you can find a buyer. If not, run to Kaladim and give them four at a time to Gunlok Jure of the paladin guild for a few gold and some experience (the experience is excellent at lower levels, but if you have a few stacks it can still be substantial at your level).

I didn't even have enough money to get all my spells on my druid when I hit 9; the good news is that not all of them are strictly necessary. I'm a perfectionist, though, and insist on having every spell. Another nice way to farm up some plat is killing green goblins in Butcherblock (not the warriors or whelps, though). They'll drop a few gold every kill, and while the casters are tougher, they'll also drop gems.
