As others have said, what you did may be illegal (most likely is), unless the guy was old and greying and there was no question. The question to ask yourself about whether or not it was racist is, if you remove the white/black, would it still have happened? I.e., if you had an individual come in you've carded before, would you not card them and serve them and not serve someone else you've never seen before if they didn't produce an ID? If the answer is yes, then you are not racist*. Anyone who says otherwise is trolling.

*Not necessarily racist. You may still be racist, but nothing about this story clearly indicates race was your primary motive regarding your decision.
