Default Greenestgrocer--A unique storefront opportunity

Public Notice of Auction: Greenestgrocer; a unique and valuable storefront opportunity

Greetings, citizens! This public notice is posted conspicuously so that you may know of a unique storefront/roleplay property that is being disbursed in a public sale. Our firm has been entrusted with this property to be held in escrow until a new owner is found.

In addition to this exciting new opportunity, two documents were submitted to be disclosed.

The first, a dusty note, is freshly written in elvish and is translated here:

Quote:
"I'm not the first owner of Greenestgrocer; he was passed to me just as I am passing him to you. I dont even know who the original was; for all I know he's retired and living like a king in Misty Thicket. Greenestgrocer has lately been a drunken boxing competitor, where he's 1-1 in official bouts. I cant bear to see this proud name in such a fallen state. I am motivated by a strong desire to see a return of the meat market to our community, and I hope that through their commerce and industry the new Greenestgrocer can return stability to this vital trade. Therefore in consideration of your anonymous execution of this transaction, I transfer to you this entity on condition that you make a public sale, and also that you disclose this tattered note, as well as another enclosed document I have previously agreed to keep with him, as part of the process. Use the proceeds at your discretion to do good work in the community."
The second item, written in the common language, is a small book that appears to be fairly new and produced with great skill. It has a bold title: The Downfall of Greengrocer

Quote:
"Greed started all of this. We wanted what he had. That there were several of us was no surprise, and we quickly allied ourselves in secret. He made it so easy; giving a list of prices for all to see, not maintaining his anonymity, never traveling one foot to collect his stock. We all figured that finding each other was more difficult than bringing him down.

We gathered our capital, plotted a strategy, and started hoarding the items he claimed in public to need the most. When he raised a price, we gathered more of that item. If he lowered, we stopped buying altogether to let him hold the inventory. We did our best to keep our buyers, and especially our sellers, anonymous, for we found others had private reasons to transact with another grocer, no questions asked. Business was good.

The time came when our pride got the best of us, and we wanted to fire a shot across the bow. At that time control of Greenestgrocer was given to whichever among us was producing the most contacts in a given period of time which were judged to interfere with Greengrocer's business. Several claimed to be him, or used him in their fashion, and we individually maintained plausible deniability. Greengrocer became aware of our presence, and we actually offered him a chance to buy us out. He declined. He was an amusing fellow and we then offered to buy *him* out. To his credit, he said he was not scared of us. A worthy adversary.

Very soon after this, Greengrocer did something unexpected: he traveled to another city. We began to wonder if he had learned to expand and travel, or perhaps in his cunning had learned of our plan and recalibrated? We never got an answer. Some combination of factors lead our enemy into battle with forces he could not win. A master of roleplaying, commodities trading, and forumquesting; he was even able to obtain demigod status in another form. Still, he flew too high, and the real lords of this world showed themselves and cut him down. Greengrocer was gone, but this was not the triumph we worked for.

This minor victory soon brought unforeseen consequences: Without a common purpose our group was not able to operate in the same way. Each of us in turn looked to the other as a new enemy. We fought over control of Greenestgrocer. The meat market broke apart, and without his pricing guide we were soon at war with each other. We fought over the customers we had worked so hard to earn.

After an organizational meeting an agreement was reached: Our affiliation is over, those who wish to stay in the market go on their own, and those who wish to get out would liquidate and find new industry or retire. Greenestgrocer will be passed along to a worthy successor by means not yet clear to us. Any money left in his account went to fund this document, made to last by a professional bookbinder in Erudin, to warn others of our failures and most importantly, to let Greengrocer know that he was never as secure in his business as he thought he was."
The public period of making offers on assuming Greenestgrocer is now open. The transaction will be anonymous unless the owner wishes to identify themselves. Any good faith offer will be considered; including propositions for a new use. Contact via PM or in game, or post here if you wish to be public.
