Actually the first season of TNG had some real weird episodes and I alwyas liked them. Years later I found out Roddenberry had a lot influence on them and they later hired some new people and introduced more drama into it. I'm ok with the drama, but I was ok with the first two seasons as well. I guess people like you weren't ok with it?
One of my favorites was the one where Picard opens the door and it goes out into space.
