Thumbs up Cirque Du Soleil

So, I had the opportunity to watch a few Cirque shows over the holidays and omgosh they were super fantastic :3 I cannot BEGIN to express how wonderful they were or how thoroughly I enjoyed them ^^ I will not allow that to deter me from trying though!

So, I saw "O," "Ka," "Zumanity" and "Mystere." They were all great and each had its own distinct flavor. "O" was by far the best as an artistic presentation and showcase of human talent. It gave me goosebumps a few times and made me cry several times just because of how beautiful it was. I really felt that I connected with this show and was super happy for it ^^ There were a lot of very skilled individuals and the choreography, score and lighting brought everything to life in such a way that I really felt I was part of the producers world. It was very honestly beautiful ^^

As a general note, I strongly suggest up close seating for immersion. I had pretty good seats for most of the shows, but sat farther away for Mystere and really had a hard time getting into that one because everything felt so detached due to the distance :c

"Ka" was a fun lighthearted show that was a bit more difficult to get into. I think part of my immersion suffered because I was seated next to a very aggressive Muslim man who seemed mod interested in battling me for our shared armrest than watching the show >.> That aside though, the show just lacked the emotional flare of "O" for me. I do t know why. It kinda had a final fantasy feel to it in both the story progression and the musical score. The martial arts seemed pretty poopy, but the costume design and acting was pretty good. I think some of the dramatic elements were lessened by excessive comedic interjections, but maybe that was the intent. For a $150 million production though I was a bit disappointed even though I had a lot of fun.

"Zumanity" was, um, well a Cabernet style show. The venue was certainly the smallest of the three, but there were still some outstanding acrobatics and a good amount of comedy. The dancing was pretty meh though and costumes were uninspiring and I didn't really find much to be "excited" about, though again, I had a lot of fun. If you opt for a "couch/bench seat" (I did not, thank FSM) you have front row seating, but will be roped into the show, whether it is by being handed a lovetoy or food item from the host, or invited on stage to mimic silly activities, or "help" with other parts of the show. Overall, very funny show, but do not get front row seats if you are shy *^^* and don't go at all if you are offended by sexual content.

"Mystere" was just weird^^ They had some good trapeze shows and one of those Russian strongman one of duos where they liek do handstands on each other and stuff. It was really impressive. They also had an interesting "conductor" who acted more like a saboteur and involved the audience in all sorts of silly ways. Probably a toss up between him and the French ventriloquist for my favorite character in that show.

Obviously I liked "O" the best and then it is probably a toss up between "Ka" and "Zumanity" for second with "Mystere" in last. All were great, but that is how I would rank them. I think part of the problem for me was that I saw "O" first and it was so amazing that the others just couldn't compare. If I could do it over, I'd probably watch "O" last ^^

Anyone else seen a Cirque show? How was it? What did you think?
