Default Frustrating Spell File Issue

Quick background:

I'm an airline pilot and spend an average of 3 nights a week at various hotels. I play on an ASUS laptop running Windows 8.1, 64 bit, dual core (1.80 GHz each). I've had zero issues with playing via hotel wifi at about 15 different hotels over the last month or so.

Last night I get to Tallahassee, sign in to the Candlewood Suites wifi via their provided password, and check my connection via youtube, lol. Seems fast, so I log in. I get in to game in EC, auction for a few, swap characters (also in EC if it matters) and then crash trying to get into the world.

Back to youtube, connection still solid. Try to log back in, spell file error message on the character select screen, disconnected. So I grab my ethernet cable and hit up the wall connection. Still solid speed, try to log in, same error.

I go back to the V45 file download, grab it, drag and drop to EQ file, replace all, double check that all of my required files to delete are gone, and they're still gone.

Log in, same spell file problem. Try again, and WTF, it lets me get to character select screen with no spell file error. Try to log in, disconnect, and then spell file error on the next 3 tries to log in. This is where I gave up.

Any clues what else I could try? Is there ANY way that this particular hotel's connection could be the issue? I really appreciate any help I can get. My time spent in hotels is usually pretty lame w/o something to kill time. Thanks guys/gals!
