I think that is the point Nirgon is trying to make. I knew about boxing, had a roommate that boxed a cleric & rogue. Never knew about recharging. Boxing was not common due to costs.

Non-raider from Bristlebane here: I knew about it, in Velious ... because I was an obsessive EQ-site-reader, and it was mentioned on some of them. I didn't actually know how to do it, because I didn't have anything in need of recharging and so never bothered to learn ... but I at least knew "recharging was a thing".

But of course, playing the "did you remember X in classic?" game is always futile: this place relies on evidence, and it's impossible to prove one way or the other exactly how common any bit of "secret" knowledge was back in the day.

But also ... I don't think classicness even matters here anymore. Well that's not true of course, but what I mean is that it's not developer directive #1 anymore. "Fixing exploits" has come to trump classicness here, so ultimately the question of whether recharging ever gets nerfed comes down to whether R&N ever decide to categorize it as an exploit.
