Default During the non-planned capitol insurrection.

Chris Miller, Donald Trump's acting defense secretary for his final days in office, admitted during a hearing at the Capitol yesterday that the President wanted to use the military to protect his supporters on January 6th instead of the military protecting members of Congress.

According to Mr Miller's testimony, Mr Trump asked whether the District of Columbia's mayor had requested National Guard troops for January 6, the day Congress was to ratify Joe Biden's presidential election victory.

The former defence secretary testified that Mr Trump told him to "fill" the request and "do whatever is necessary to protect demonstrators that were executing their constitutionally protected rights".

Mr Miller's remarks were made during a contentious hearing held by the House Oversight Committee, which is investigating security failures in the days leading to and during the riot.

Democrat politician Carolyn Maloney, who chairs the committee, asked why National Guard troops did not arrive until hours after the building was overrun.

Mr Miller testified that the US military was deliberately restrained that day when Mr Trump's rally turned into an assault by hundreds of his followers that left five dead, including a Capitol Police officer.

Mr Miller said he was concerned in the days before January 6 that sending National Guard troops to Washington would increase fears of a military coup or that Trump advisers were advocating martial law.

Five people were killed when rioters stormed the Capitol, trying to stop Congress certifying Mr Biden's election victory.

Welp, there you have it. Totally not planned. Totally not pulling the strings behind the scenes to use the military as a weapon against its own people. Whoopsie.
