I feel like china would crack down on HK alot harder, up to and including military occupation, long before they would make a move on taiwan.

Taking this action in HK would be a good litmus test, a measure of how the world would respond to this perceived aggression.

Also another thing to keep in mind is that an invasion of taiwan would be bad for alot of global business, and like I always say, if its bad for the 1%, its not gonna happen.
