As many are saying the best path is charm and such to lvl. I will say this on OP question.
You won't do as much dmg as a rogue/warrior/monk etc. Your around half of them, unless they are super under geared and your twinked. But your still decent, I spent a lot of time on my bard alt in groups in upper guk, and CT. Most time I'd be puller/tank with some melee dps while tanking(mainly holding agro with slows/mez) but also twisting mana song in there. Will say range on mana song was low, so always made sure I tanked mobs as close to casters as I could as I spammed mana/slow/Hp regen. Then back to pulling. With agro change I don't know how well bards tank anymore with mez/Slow.
