Twinkie, one of my cats, after I brought her home from amputation surgery. She was diagnosed with bone cancer and not having the surgery would have meant her death. I scheduled it for a Friday so I could bring her home and have the weekend to stay with her, which I did. Vet was surprised too; usually people leave their pets there to recover from such serious surgery. Nobody would be there at night though on the weekend, and I wanted to be with her to take care of her (we have a bond). I set her up on my bed with some towels and extra sheets and stayed with her the entire weekend.

By Tuesday she was up and down the stairs [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] That's crazy! But after the medication wore off on Saturday (about 24 hours or so after the surgery) she tried to stand up and I guess got freaked by the lack of leg and started jumping around like a jumping bean, even off the bed.

I can happily report she's happier now than ever, and has not slowed one bit. No more pain from that leg. She used to not like to put much weight on it and I never paid much attention to it, but now I know it must have bothered her immensely. I just thought it was one of her "things".

If you want to know what prompted me to take her to the vet, one morning she tried jumping on my lap but her claws dug in and I squirmed just enough that she fell off. She limped, and I thought maybe she sprained her leg. No big deal, it will go away. Next day, just as bad, and I gently felt her leg and noticed a huge lump in the "elbow" area. Took her to the vet, and the diagnosis was a rare bone cancer tumor that fractured slightly. Son of a bitch huh?
