FD troubles

I just wanted to see if FD is working as intended or I don't know what I am doing.

I was in west karana on my necro hunting at millers farm and tiny miller aggroed my pet, since he is blood red and about 20 levels above me I just FDed where I stood and he killed my pet. He never aggroed on me just my pet.

I waited til he pathed away, roughly 15 seconds and I stood up, immediately he comes charging back at me so I ran a bit south toward the river and FDed again. I waited about 30 seconds this time, he pathed away almost as soon as I fded. I ran down to the river and sat to med so i could make a new pet, and all of a sudden there he is again charging over the hill.

So i ran east along the river about 20 seconds til I was a good ways from the farm and FDed again, waited about a minute then stood up and clicked my CoS as soon as i stood, sat down to med again. Here he comes again charging back down the river at me.

I ended up having to run half way to NK zoneline and then camped out. Am I missing something about FD and using it incorrectly? I don't have a weapon equiped so I didn't have auto on. I know he is a roamer so there isn't a set spot for him to reset at. Did I just have really bad luck or was I just using FD totally wrong. The first 3 FDs definitely gave him enough time to get back to the area he roams in, I think the last 2 times I was so far away he didnt have time to get all the way back to the farm.
