Game Mechanics: Exp modifier for Bard messed up

My bard and my brothers Ranger grouped together entirely from lvl 1 to 40 and when i hit 40 he was 41.5 now i did die about 6 times more than him but got 90%'s so maybe they are only slightly off. We both should have been at a 40% penalty. Both lvl 50 now so i guess mute point =)
