Is fishing broken?

I can't equip fishing grubs in my ammo slot, and when I fish the grubs don't go away. I'm gaining skills, but so far have not caught any boots or anything.

EDIT: Oh, there. I forgot that you don't lose bait on every cast :P

Nevermind!

Oh no my fishing pole broke! Are there any that won't break?
