How do I play a rogue?

I have played a rogue for a while now. I honestly have no clue what the hell I'm supposed to do. Do I just stand behind the mob and hit autoattack? Do I tank? How do I level up lock-pick? What does "pickpocket" do exactly? Can I solo the ghoul lord?

Please help!
