Are we sure this isn't kind of a generic error message?
I had the same issue while debugging my (non-technical) cousin and we finally fixed it by having him uninstall some beta GPU drivers that he installed for Battlefield 4 (or something). I'm also getting this same message on my new ASUS T100 now. This is while attempting to log into the server. It's definitely not a Windows 8.1-specific issue since I had this running on Windows 8 Pro and did an upgrade to 8.1 Pro with no problems at all on my main desktop.

Same issue here folks (cannot read memory error). I have changed absolutely nothing in the last 24 hours, and I was able to play last night and not able to today after the downtime.
Could this have something to do with the .dll that is unique to P99? [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] Edit: Tried the eqclient.ini window resolution fix that was suggested in an earlier post (with link). Didn't work, so additional information: Windows 7 x64 and running as admin w XP SP3 from shortcut. No driver updates since last working, no windows updates since last working, no hardware changes since last working, and no new programs installed since last working. Error appears after entering login information; when it would normally load server list, instead there is a hang then error message forcing the program to terminate.

I used 8.1 for about 3 hours and then restored back to 8. My frame rates drastically dropped when I switched to 8.1
I run a Radeon HD7770oc Edition, 16gb ram, Pentium i3. Nothing great. As far as EQ and Project 1999 went on 8.1, it sucked balls. My advice to all, unless you got a touchscreen -- fuck Windows 8.1

I'm getting this same error. Played just fine for 12+ months, logged off last night and everything was fine. Didn't change a thing, got home from work today and tried to log back in and now I'm getting this error right after I enter my login information.
Tried messing with eq.ini changing resolutions / windowed mode / etc. Didn't help. Tried running in administrator mode, ran from command prompt, set affinity to 1 processor, launched through WinEQ. Nothing seems to help.
