If you're five levels lower than them you'll have vastly lower xp than them so only take a smidgen of xp out of the share. I imagine you'd barely have to reduce their downtime to increase their xp rate, so assuming neither they nor I am ignorant I don't think it is xp they are worried about (unless they think you are likely to get someone killed).
