We had the same thing happen with an epic wizard in Empire. He ran away from the AC spawn in OOT to quad some seafuries. Placeholder spawned so we took over camp as he wasn't there. He then returns and tries to say camp was his and that he just walked away to quad for a second. Proceeds to try and ks spawns from the three of us. Didn't work. Got mad and sad.
And then something wonderful happened. Someone oor two shotted this wizard that was afk waiting to try and ks our next spawn. You know, because the last 5 ks attempts didn't work the next one might...

That being said, you can absolutely "camp" mobs, and you cannot steal another players 'camp'. In general, if the placeholder or placeholders for a spawn are being killed, that 'camp' can be considered held by the player doing the killing so long as they are keeping the placeholders cleared. Note how it says you do not need to maintain a presence at the camp if you are clearing the placeholders. Only once another group wishes to contest do you need to maintain a presence. Also note how it says if you are holding multiple camps, like say AC and seafurys, the player retains the right to choose which camp to give up upon another group wishing to contest. Lastly note how it says you dont lose that right unless you camp out or leave the zone.
So i was keeping the spot cleared, and even though as i was running back 10 seconds late to clear the placeholder, that doesn't give you the right to steal my camp. Very clearly you were wishing to contest, which would have afforded me the option of keeping that camp and maintaining a presence. You knew i was clearing it because u were alrdy there for the previous one. And lastly, its none of your business why I am camping whatever I want to camp. Your sense of entitlement notwithstanding.
Going afk for a min was pretty dumb tho. Thraak finally got a kill on me.
