Fact check: Mostly false.

The internet was built on an exclusively US government network called arpanet. The organization that assigned domains (ICANN) was also American. So both the original internet was American, as was the organization that assigned and allowed names and numbers for the rest of the world.

This is correct. In fact much of modern technology was brought to the world by the freedoms in place within the US. Such freedoms spawn ingenuity, creativity, and advancement. Jarn, your world view will take us all to the stone age.

what you call "the internet" is a set of protocols that allow different networks to be connected. Funny how all these networks all owned by private companies just agree to freely give access to their infrastructure so that the internet can route through their stuff ? that's the heart of internet. these protocols are not owned by anybody, they're all open sourced, no one pays anything to anyone to use them. All the servers are run on GNU/linux, you think it's owned by finland ..?

Now ICANN was the only of the internet governance that was an emanation of a government (the US). It worked well until now, but what happens if the US government, i don't know, ever gets someone who wants to "close the internet" ..?

ICANN shouldn't be under the control of any government, period. what if hillary stop giving a domain name to breitbart.com ..? wouldn't you agree ?
