The problem--the danger, rather--of being liberal-minded is that you have to have the presence of mind to recognize when the battle is won and the goals are achieved. Otherwise you get mission creep and a very real slippery slope such as has happened to any number of reformist movements. You didn't really address his point, you just said trump is bad again. His point, and he can correct me if I'm wrong, is that building a political or social identity around fighting against something necessarily entails that you must continue to find that thing at all costs, no matter how much progress has occured in remedying it. Racism in america used to mean owning black african slaves. Now it means a white cop shooting a black person for literally any reason. I've posed this question before and still haven't gotten a straight answer from anybody; in what scenario do you personally feel a white cop is justified in shooting a black person? Please be as specific as possible.

To be more clear: We currently live in a political climate where a cop shooting a guy (if he happens to be black) who is chasing after him or her with a knife is considered a racist murderer, and people riot over it; causing far more damage than the actual incident. Such a reaction is patently absurd and insane. Cops do not have a responsibility to wait until they are stabbed in the head to deal with somebody who they have already warned fifty times to stop. Thinking this way is pure moral confusion, and is a perfect example of how this mission creep manifests itself. The cop HAS to be racist, cause... shit, we're running out of racists, and a white man killed a black man. So... pretty much the same as slavery no? Forget all the other details. That's the point.

I think there’s a difference between saying going to far on racial/gender/orientation stuff vs. climate change. As a Republican I don’t think there’s too far we can go on climate change...it’s a critically important issue
