That’s the tactic though (external conflict to deflect internal division). Also, the mullah are ideological and loyal. That’s why they helped Syria and now Russia. That want to help Putin because they asked for help in Syria and he came in. They are religious zealots in addition to thieves and dickheads

It isn’t well known but Iran went to an independent Azerbaijan and wanted friendship. The aliyev regime (aliyev the first, current guy’s dad) told Iran to fuck itself and went to Turkey instead. In the first war, Iran helped Armenia as a result. They have had close economic ties ever since

But yeah, the current Iranian government HATES Azerbaijan and wouldn’t tolerate their only consistently open land border (Armenia) changing hands
