Checked out Skyrim. It looks really good.
Does anyone know if I should play the previous games before I grab Skyrim ? or will it be stand alone with no back story ? Do I need to know mechanics from the other games to do well in Skyrim ? Thanks in advance.

and the combat mechanics are changing so much you're probably better off never playing older ones

of course by playing the other games you learn more about the lore and history of the series. but yeah playing arena then skyrim would be like going to a drive in B&W movie vs. IMAX 3D lol.

Morrowind and Oblivion were the same thing imo, one just had better graphics. The story was a little different I guess, but the combat, skills, and shit was all pretty much identical.
I haven't even looked into Skyrim but even with what I said above there, the games were still pretty good so I assume this one will be too. You can also play Fallout 3, same company that makes elder scrolls and the gameplay is almost identical, and it's a very cool game. | ||

also Morrowind had the coolest intro music out of all of them by far.
