Checked out Skyrim. It looks really good.

Does anyone know if I should play the previous games before I grab Skyrim ? or will it be stand alone with no back story ?
Do I need to know mechanics from the other games to do well in Skyrim ?

of course by playing the other games you learn more about the lore and history of the series. but yeah playing arena then skyrim would be like going to a drive in B&W movie vs. IMAX 3D lol.

Morrowind and Oblivion were the same thing imo, one just had better graphics. The story was a little different I guess, but the combat, skills, and shit was all pretty much identical.

I haven't even looked into Skyrim but even with what I said above there, the games were still pretty good so I assume this one will be too.

You can also play Fallout 3, same company that makes elder scrolls and the gameplay is almost identical, and it's a very cool game.
