ive been dealing with this for the past couple of days, just reinstalled on a new laptop and everything runs great except for this exact problem. i assumed it was on my end but if others are having this problem maybe there is a fix for it. any help for me would be greatly apppreciated as well

Does your computer run any anti-virus/malware clients that have on-access protection?

I had a few problems with this on my older work laptop until I configured both Symantec anti-virus and microsoft security essentials (MSE) for this.

I would suggest adding your Everquest folder into its list of centralized exceptions. The next step beyond that is to disable it entirely to see if you notice any performance increases.
