If you're up for something familiar but a little different, check this game out if you can get a beta key.
WoW-Awakening private server (I know but, dead99) Basics in video: Classless hero characters No faction, can kill horde or alliance outside of noob area Access to all skills and talents, it sounds crazy and it is. +1 attribute points earned every level Item loot on pvp up to 8 items maybe more https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtNS3EXe8Bw I got a beta key in a giveaway and gave it a shot, seemed pretty intense and I've only played a little bit so far. Here is another beta testers comment on reddit from earlier in beta, pop seems to be up since then. Summed it up pretty good lol: "I'm a beta tester there right now. I will give my experience so far. I'll try to be as unbiased about it as possible, and you can take from it what you will. I started playing there, and I was immediately overwhelmed by all the options put in front of me. By about level 15 or so, I had mostly gotten over that, and I knew what kind of build I wanted to aim for. By level 18, I had yet to see another player at all, which I was actually kind of happy for. I was seeing messages pop up all the time about players killing each other. (World PvP kills are announced in global chat.) In my leveling, I learned a few things. Firstly, you drop your gear when you die. And not just in PvP, but in PvE as well. This can include things you are wearing, such as armor and weapons, as well as items in your bags, like potions and even quest items. Secondly, respeccing is fairly expensive, so you better not fuck it up. Thirdly, it seemed like a normal WoW experience, except for the fact that you could build your own class as you went. I was personally starting to get a bit bored with how things were going. This is when I came across my first payer. He decided to attack me while I was fighting something, however I was able to escape. He tracked me down and finally killed me, taking roughly half of my gear and sold it. When I went out to go finish my quest, he followed me and killed me again, leaving me with literally only a pair of pants. At this point I wasn't sure what to do, as I couldn't even kill the green enemies I needed for my quest. I quit and attempted to reroll a new character. I got to level 5 and was immediately ganked by someone as soon as I left the starting area. This has been my experience in the beta so far. Now, I am not saying that any of this was bad or good. All I can say is that it was... hardcore. If that's not your thing, don't play here." Anyway, just puttin it out there because to me a open world pvp server with item loot and ability to customize your class running on the wow engine seemed interesting. I like that you have to play the game in a new way. It's not a total free for all on skills or talents, they still come with tiers and requirements. I started out with mage armor at lvl 2, a druid hot at lvl 4, picked up stealth to dodge higher lvl pvp at 6 before leavin the noobie yard and entering hostile turf. Skipped level 8 to pick up two spells accessible at lvl 10, soul drain and void walker pet, thought being that if I get jumped at least my pet will have the mob and I can just kind of ride the pet to be ready for pvp at all times because losing 8 items at lvl 10 is gonna be a set back lol It's def gonna see some tuning but for right now, its a pvp item loot server with the potential to build some OP shit and grief noobs. hope this helped

No factions or classes, open world pvp and item loot. I have been playing red almost solely since a few months before my join date, march 2012. Nothing else even came close to scratching that itch. Until this server. There's just something about it bros, I highly recommend trying it out. I haven't even logged on red since I found this server. Here are a few short stories about my experience on the server so far, I'm lvl 28. Was out herbing across the river on the durotar and barrens border near org. I noticed a guy across the river farming crocs for one of the random quests, I've done it a few times but usually skip because the drop rate has sucked every time I did it. I click on him just to see and it happens to be a guy that talked shit to me in world chat. I keep herbing for about 10 mins while he farms. Stealth up and go make the kill, I get to loot his weapon, bp, legs, back, boots, gloves and the quest item. He's sending rage tells as I stroll up to the quest giver and turn in the items he farmed for free exp. Did the same thing a number of times since to different people, some guy I killed strolling into camp T dropped 60 quilboar tusks just as I was about to go do the quest, took me less than 1 min to complete. =D Around level 20 I noticed a guy who is always doin dungeon grps and seems to be a bitch with loot, never ran with him but I see him in global chat all the time, hes always trying to justify taking a item for himself because he made the grp. This playstyle allowed him to be rollin in full blues while most of us are in lvl 5 cheap greens or vendor whites, sometimes even gray gear. I saw him in an inn and inspected, was impressed with what he had so I stealthed out and waitied. Followed him out of the city and about 20 mins later the moment had arrived. I jumped him and killed him and took 6 blue items and a bunch of crafting mats. he came back and I killed him again taking another 3 blue items and some consumables. Didn't see him for a few days, think hes still level 20. I sold the mats and still wear some of the items I took from him. At lvl 27 I wanted a rfk grp but the guy leading the party didnt like me because I ganked him at low level. They bitch out and do it without me. It's all good tho, I'm waiting outside. Nothing. Bitches hearthed out instead of resetting. But I can see they are still in barrens. So I head north and find em one by one running back. He's in the back of the pack, I strike. Kill and loot the corpsemaker axe and tusk helm he had just picked up. Got away clean. The axe really improved my dmg =D On the flip side, I have been killed and looted almost completely about 4 times so far. It happens. Hopefully ya have a secondary set in the bank but if that gets taken too, you're back to vendor armor and weapons till ya can get some new gear again. Havent died to a in range player (+6lvls and they cannot loot you) since I killed the guy from WC tho, all that gear made me pretty strong compared to the players in quest/vendor gear. That's all for now. Its a great fuckin game, the best wow I ever played by a long shot and way more fun than red in its current state.
