Instancing was the begining of the end for MMO's and it killed a lot of what made EQ the best MMO...If content is to be isntanced then I'd rather just go play WoW...

Instancing wasn't the reason MMOs died. It was a combination of factors, that included instancing content.

-Homogenized classes
-Loss of flavour abilities / skills
-Simplified game-play (I use more abilities on my shaman in EQ than I do in WoW)
-No risk, which devalues feelings of achievement when it comes to rewards
-Less options (Fewer races, fewer classes, fewer starting areas, less lore)
-More "safety" (Nothing compares to the fear of a werewolf in WK sneaking up on you at night. Not even Devilsaurs or Felreavers)
-Making it easier to solo (Removing the "Massive Multiplayer" from the genre)
-Making all equipment NO DROP so that there's no market for anything but green crap no one wants.

I could go on. But I wouldn't say instancing wasn't what killed MMOs. I'm not arguing FOR instancing either. I just find your statement... lacking. :3

Shame it won't happen here since I doubt the technology is capable of doing it with EQ1.
Not sure why you think instancing is outside the realms of EQ's technology, considering EQ has had instancing for a decade. Lots of other emu servers incorporate forms of instancing...

That said, I'd rather never see instancing here. It's gone from bad (dungeon instancing: LDON, WoW) to awful (Age of Conan where every area in the game is instanced).

I realize that. I said that I don't believe it exists in the form that I said it woudl exist, e.g., zones having a 20 or 30 person limit (that anyone can zone into) but once the zone fills up, unless you're in a party with someone in the same instance, you can't enter it and you go into a new zone. The same style stuff that is done with games like Champions Online, DDO, and, if I'm not mistaken, TERA as well, to keep things from being over-crowded in zones.

It's instancing, but it's still public so it doesn't take away the community aspect. But at least it might alleviate the currently dismal raid scene we have now.

The current raid scene isn't dismal only due to the lack of instancing--although instancing would surely fix it. It's dismal also in part because it's populated by a significant number of so-called adults who apparently never learned how to share. EQ is a fairly open ended game and the high end is what the players make it.

I consider instancing a generally good tool that's overused in some other games. However I don't seriously suggest its adoption here simply because it's contrary to the purpose of P1999.

Instancing is one step from a single player game. In WoW you sit in town all day and are magically transported to your dungeon or PvP area and then right back to town. Zero exploration. And zero socializing. It's like playing with bots.

I think incorporating other realms was the real death of it. Can't be fucked finding a group to go and do instance X, I'll just queue for a fast game.

Who are these other 4 players? Who cares, lets just grind...

RIP Warcraft.

I would rather see luclin and PoP over instanced classic-velious content or custom content.

What kills it is that we have no RPers and casuals everyone is pretty much a raider. The classic EQ raid sence wasn't made to support the amount of raiders we have.
