Played a warrior on live, and high end Velious gear was the beginning of the end of PVP in EverQuest.

As a warrior once you had full NTOV gear you could literally steamroll full groups of kunark-geared level 60s solo and barely take any visible damage.

The same cannot be said for a warrior in even BIS kunark gear

As they did on live. Nuking was a total gamble if it wasn't a lure. Thats why every caster class has other specialties or support abilities.
