Those are your buff slots! You can turn the window off if you want (alt+b, I think) but I don't recommend it.
Those aren't the buff slots, those are the bard song slots that don't ever get used on p99. There is a way to hide them but i don't remember the keyboard shortcut off the top of my head. If you go into your options and scroll through all the keybinds you should find it eventually.

If you haven't got an answer to how to hide them by the time i get home tonight i will post the answer when i find it [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]!

Welcome to P99!

So while I've got a topic going...

Anyone know what this UI element is? I swear I've clicked all the toggles but I can't get them to go away

ALT+E

Those are for bard songs on live.

On P99, I think GFay is the best zone for new players of the game. It's not overly complicated, there isn't much that can really set you back to discourage you and the population is healthy for both grouping and general assistance.

Early to mid teens is a better time to really explore the world more, after you've become more familiar with the game mechanics.

Hmm definitely don't see anything about bard song under the UI list, had a good few read throughs of it. Got the buff one to come up, but yes this one is just a smaller version.

Thanks for the welcoming and the rest of the advice!

EDIT: Yep that's it ta Morlaeth, it says that toggles S.D. Effects Window, never would've guessed.

ALT+E will toggle the bard song window off. It is unused on P99.

At some point on live bard songs went into a separate buff window (those 6 boxes you see there), on Live (early on) and on p99, bard songs take up traditional buff slots.

Went on a bone chip run to Kaladim, spent multiple hours grinding .5 percent mobs to get lvl 3-4 and spent another couple of hours purely killing skeles for four different 2 percent drops for my first druid quest which I expected to lead into a chain, only to be told to do it again or gtfo.

Getting absolutely destroyed by white orcs and couldn't find anyone else around to group with so gonna call it a day I think.

Got into it a lot more today and starting to get the feel of things, especially nice knowing the layout of Kelethin a bit, place is a damn maze at first.

Hells yeahh

In regards to this, the /con system is misleading, again, if you're experience is in current MMOs. White con means the mob is even in level with you. Even in level in EQ at low levels means it's gonna be an even fight. You have a 50-50 shot of victory. At higher levels you don't fight even, you fight to win. Remember, at lvl 5 you loose XP when you die and it SUCKS to un-ding a hard earned level.

Yeah it was just weird going from killing whites at level 2 in a few hits to not even being able to get 25 percent off a single white orc at 4, I guess I'm weaker to them in whatever way.

I knew you'd lose XP....I did not know you could fucking un-ding a level.

Jesus christ. Do you at least get locked @ max level?

What? EverQuest would NEVER be that easy! It's not here to hold your hand, it's here to kill you.
