I have hunted these things a lot now, and will tell you some info about it. They hit for up to 96, and they double a lot and can bash and kick up to 40 or so. They see through invis to undead. They only cast one spell, life tap, and they have a proc that stuns you for a few seconds. They drop opals, emeralds, black pearls, pearl rings, jade rings, and up to 6pp or so. Me (43 paladin) a 43 mage and 43 necromancer were taking the whole island in oasis pretty easily. Best strategy is to have necro cast darkness, and paladin cast spook undead while pets and paladin keep whacking, and mage and necro can throw in dots occaisonally. Mage can summon lev rings as well. To break spawn we usually have me go up there and pull like normal, get 3 or so, and if we cant take them i kite them around (on me, not newbies) while the necro and mage pick them off one by one. They are excellent experience. I can solo one, but its usually pretty close. Fear undead is your friend against these boys.

Here's some fun proof of just how "social" specters were in classic:

This is not an original classic eq video IMHO. It is a test video for eqclassic or something similar using an old client.

Okay so there are a few specifics which need to be known to change this.

-Should spectres aggro socially? That would explain more than 1 coming. The comments don't specify if they are pulling from range with a projectile or aggroing by distance. --If they are social, should they assist other undead, or only other spectres?

-Should spectres have a higher aggro radius than other npcs in Oasis? This could also explain more than 1 coming.

I think it's implied in the comments I linked that Spectres have a higher aggro radius. Along with Nirgon and others' memory I'd say there's enough evidence for a change. And they do aggro socially already on p99. I have no idea if they should assist other undead (nor how I'd find evidence on that [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.])

The specs in oasis tapped me all the time on live. I just know when I levi'd up to the island and hit one under say... lvl 44? Something around there, I'd get more than 1, usually like 4-5. Right now you can single pull all of them. At any level, well, maybe minus the ones in the tower heh.
Fixed, pending update.

Oh, if they're rooted I believe they should try to tap anyone nearby
are you saying any npc should attack the closest kos target if it is in range and cannot reach its intended target? or undead ones only?

and should train on people... they did, but I'm not sure if its worth going out of your way to do something that can make people miserable :P.
I believe undead npcs in general should work mechanically different to allow for this. When an undead checks its proximity aggro, if it is closer to someone else and has no existing hate from the puller, it should 'train' onto the closest person. (This deserves its own thread)

A spectre should life tap the closest kos target if rooted.

If you run a spectre over top of someone, it should aggro them like most other undead.

See zombies, mummies, skeletons.

As Ambrotos wisely pointed out and joined an overall issue, the "search" mode and adding players to its hate list needs a look. Some NPCs have different behaviors of when they add.

For instance if I aggro a factioned kos guard and run it past someone else who is kos, it should not attack. A spectre, however, would.

If a kos player who is noted hated by a guard sits next to a rooted guard, I believe they should be safe.

I realize this is inconvenient for some but the goal here is to emulate a classic everquest server. Maybe seeing these things working will be pleasing in the respect of a classic experience restoration.
