one of the best books i ever read was a godzilla novel way back in the day when i was 10 or so. was something along the lines of there being a giant hole in antartica and ther was a monster coming out of it and so godzilla went down there to figure it out. i never actually finished it, but was good.

that being said, godzilla was always a stupid franchise. lacked depth and any real storyline outside of the minor characters. this new one looks very "pretty" but i dont think theres gona be much content or rewatch value.

sucks they didnt get jean reno for it

Not sure what the saddest part is. That a Godzilla book was "one of the best books you ever read" or that you didn't actually finish it.

Garreth Edwards is a long time Godzilla fan, he's keeping it true to the Japanese Godzilla franchise. So many talented were are involved in the making of this movie. Frank Darabont, Bryan Cranston, even Andy Serkis. Looks incredible. It's already getting good reviews too.

I haven't seen it yet. Hasn't been on my radar. You nailed it about dialog though and coupling that with the talentless hacks that pass for actors now just makes everything stiff (see Jayden Smith or Jennifer Lawrence for example).

it's worth a watch and it's very primal.

i know what you mean about bad actors. lots of them won't take chances anymore, and just stay in safe roles. then when they do they usually suck (see: shia labeouf, james franco, ryan gosling{he can't do more than 500 words in a movie}, and the current crop)

Dialog dialog dialog.

Do you have any idea why the old greats are all dialog? Special effects didn't exist back then. Couple that with the fact that the price of a movie ticket inflation adjusted, was a fraction of what it is today, you need your movies to hit a wider audience if you want to make your money back. Film is a visual medium, since the technology exists to do virtually anything we want with film we should be judging films by how well the directors use their resources to immerse us into the story.

There are exceptions of course. LOTR and other movies based on books should be more dialog driven to stay true to their medium of origin, but that's besides the point in this thread as we're talking about a film who's origins are mid budget 50s foreign sci fi turned kaiju beatemups.

If you want dialog so badly read a book or at least do yourself a favor and stop watching blockbusters as you clearly don't get the point.

i do read a lot, but focusing on one medium of conveyance doesn't challenge your brain.

cgi heavy movies can be saved by the dialogue like LOTR or Pans Labyrinth, but most cgi heavy movies are shit like transformers or avatar which had shitty dialogue. in terms of kaiju, pacific rim was saved by charlie day as comedic relief, but the whole movie was almost brought down by lil asian girl love big american man. hysterical laughter at that shit.

we're creatures that create sounds more complex than any other on the planet. even as you read this there's something of a noise resonating in your visual cortex.
